Langley Flying School Student Naif Malvankar signs with Jet Airways

E-mail from Naif Malvankar to Chief Flying Instructor David Parry:

“Chief,

“It gives me immense pleasure to write to you. I hope all is well with you in Vancouver.  However before I go any further, I’d like to quote a short conversation we had during my flight training almost two and one-half years ago.

“This is when we were training in the Seneca, circling northwest of the 200th Interchange at 2,000 feet, waiting to get clearance to enter the Langley airspace.

Langley Tower:   GURW, position and intention?

Me:   Seneca GURW, circling NW of 200th, 2000 Ft inbound full stop.

DP:    Damn Chief, You sounded like a Jet airways Captain right there on the radio.

“Dear Dave, Inspirational moments and motivational words like these from you thru out my training has finally got me a job as a First Officer in Jet Airways on the Boeing 737NG.  I thought to myself then, someday, somewhere, I shall turn this into reality with hardwork and dedication to whatever Dave Parry just told me.

“After graduating from Langley Flying School, I waited for over a year trying my luck in various airlines during the recession, but unfortunately couldn’t do so.  By about end of 2010, airlines in India were looking for type-rated pilots when I decided to go to Berlin, Germany, to get type rated on the Boeing 737-800.  The instructors in Germany were so impressed with my knowledge and flying skills thru out the course, I was constantly asked about my initial flying training in Vancouver, and they found it hard to believe I just had about 250 hours of total time.  All I could say is, it’s because of the instructors who have trained me earlier to have such skills.  After the type- rating course, I was awarded the recommendation from the European JAR organisation for outstanding flying skills and for high standards of safety thru out the course.

“Having said all this, no matter how much I say, I need to thank you from the bottom of my heart for training me and allowing me to be a part of Langley Flying School.  From those wonderful slide presentations you took time out to make, making the learning process more fun and home like, the books from Langley Flying School (which by the way I still refer to, just because of the simple words of explaining—applied from a hold entry to a compressor—is exceptionally fantastic).  For having someone like Philip Craig who I think is such an intelligent and gifted instructor pilot I have always admired.

“But I must say I don’t think anything beats the adrenalin rush of flying the Seneca on final approach with full flaps landing it on the 2200 feet of runway.  And I could always pull it off with your instructions and the amazing team of exceptional instructors who have always helped me in every way possible to groom me into the pilot I’ve become and shall continue to become better with your best wishes and thoughts.

“I shall keep you updated about upcoming events.  Wouldn’t have been possible without you Chief!—Thank You!
